About LocallStore
LocallStore is being built to compare prices on the same product across several US retailers. This page explains how it will work, so you know what to expect before we open.
The short version
We will earn a commission when you buy through our links. It will not change your price.
Prices will come from retailer data files and can be a day old.
We will compare a handful of stores, not every store.
How we plan to make money
Retailers run affiliate programs. When the site opens, if you click a link and then buy, the retailer may pay us a small commission. You will pay the same price you would have paid anyway, and the price at checkout is always the retailer's own.
Every button that leads to a retailer will be marked as a paid link. Offers will be listed cheapest first, and nobody can pay to move up the list.
Where the prices will come from
Retailers publish product data through their affiliate programs. We plan to load it once a day and match the same product across stores using its UPC barcode, which is more reliable than matching by name.
A price on the site will be a snapshot. It can change after our last update, and an item can sell out. Before you buy, check the price on the retailer's page. That one is the price that counts.
What we will get wrong, and what we will leave out
- We will only compare stores that accept us into their affiliate programs, so a cheaper price may exist somewhere we do not look.
- Prices and stock can be out of date by up to a day, sometimes longer if a retailer's data file is late.
- Some products have no barcode in a retailer's data, so we cannot match them and they may not appear.
- Shipping, tax and membership prices will not be included in the prices shown.
